Patty bought the property in Point Reyes in 1990. She felt like the luckiest person in the world. After working two jobs she spent late nights imagining her "dream house". She had never designed anything. After two years reading about design, principles of kitchen flow, storage, Japanese gardening, and energy efficiency, she presented her plans to a local designer-builder. The home was completed in 1992.

The Southwest orientation maximizes solar gain. The street side has few windows to maintain privacy. Two large bedroom suites at opposite wings of the home allow privacy for all occupants. The central common area is unifying. The open kitchen can accommodate many working simultaneously. The loft is a great place to get away for a nap.

About Point Reyes

Point Reyes is located approximately 22 miles north of San Francisco, in West Marin. The rural communities of West Marin dot a landscape characterized by spectacular shorelines, dairy farms and over 65,000 acres of wilderness protected by the Point Reyes National Seashore. The Point Reyes National Seashore contains unique elements of biological and historical interest in a spectacularly scenic panorama of thunderous ocean breakers, open grasslands, bushy hillsides and forested ridges. Nearly 20% of the State's flowering plant species are represented on the peninsula and over 45% of the bird species in North America have been sighted.

Wheelchair accessible trails within the Point Reyes National Seashore include the Earthquake Trail (½ mile paved trail), Limatour Beach (paved trail for bird watching), Abbott's Lagoon (soil cement trail leading to an overlook), and Historic Pierce Point Ranch Trail (soil cement trail).

Point Reyes

Because Patty's nephew is in a wheelchair, she designed the home to be handicap friendly. Doorways and halls are wide and the second bathroom is handicap friendly. The master bath has an indoor-outdoor feel that pulls you into the garden. The back wrap-around deck faces the Inverness ridge. Most visitors spend their time there relaxing, barbecuing as the sun sets, and soaking in the hot tub under the expanse of the Milky Way.
